When the wind blows was a brilliant and starkly warning cartoon film about post nuclear war. It was something that couldn't be survived. This tree knows all about the wind blowing, it might not be from a nuclear blast but it is powerful enough to change another's nature. The tree does try to grow tall and straight but the wind restricts growth on the windward side, the sheltered side grows with little hindrance. The tree doesn't grow that way on purpose. Us humans have quaint old expressions for contending with the unbeatable, like peeing into the wind. And do you know, we still try to do it. Flow with the way of the universe it is much easier. . . and drier!

I remember going to see the cartoon film 'When the Wind Blows' at Cambridge Arts Cinema. I went on my own .... last time I ever did that ! Very moving cartoon about an elderly couple who try to survive the nuclear winter. Their misunderstandings and struggles with the inevitable. Building fall out shelters in the house was never meant to protect you, merely ensure the walking dead bodies had already dug their own graves.
